US: AT&T buys sixth-place wireless carrier

AT&T has been cleared by the Federal Communications Commission to acquire Leap, the nation’s sixth-largest wireless carrier, say reports.

    The US Department of Justice has similarly approved of the $1.2 billion buy of the pay-as-you-go business on the agreement that AT&T divest airwaves in 12 geographical areas and keep plans at $40 per month or less.

    According to reports, AT&T has been looking for ways to boost its spectrum since its failed attempt to acquire rival T-Mobile in 2011.
