US/Canada: Gas pipeline owner ripe for buyout

NiSource, a natural gas pipeline owner operating in the upper Midwest, is reportedly ripe for a possible takeover following reports last month that Dominion Resources was raising funds for a bid.

Reports say share gains combine with Dominion’s potential buyout attempt to make NiSource a major merger candidate as the nation’s shale-gas industry booms. Earlier reports said the company is expected to post record profits this year.

Reports say possible bid contenders include Canada’s Enbridge and TransCanada pipeline owners.
