Patent licensing firm InterDigital said Monday company executives are refusing to attend a meeting in China with the nation’s National Development and Reform Commission for fear of being arrested, reports say.
The patent licensor is currently under watch by the NDRC for violating the nation’s Anti-Monopoly Law; the company announced the probe last October. According to InterDigital, the company is being probed for filing a complaint to the US International Trade Commission against various Chinese firms accusing them of patent infringement.
Reports say InterDigital is in a patent battle with Chinese firm Huawei Technologies.
In a statement, the patent firm said the executives “are simply unable to comply with any investigation that is accompanies by a threat to the safety of our executives.”
