US: eBay bolsters payments operations with Braintree buyout

Online retail giant eBay announced the acquisition of online payments company Braintree in an $800 million deal that bolsters eBay’s portfolio with clients including Uber and OpenTable.

    Reports say the buyout, subject to regulatory approval, lands eBay with the company that processes about $4 billion in online payments every year.

    Braintree is expected to continue operating as an independent company within PayPal. Its CEO Bill Ready, however, was not confirmed as a permanent addition to the team.
