US: FCC says new plans to ‘completely revolutionize’ telco industry

 |  March 26, 2014

As the Federal Communications Commission gears up for its upcoming spectrum auction, the agency’s head Tom Wheeler said Monday that plans to “completely revolutionize” the communications industry are also under way.

Wheeler told reporters that the auction, along with new policies of spectrum sharing, will be “fundamentally transformative,” lead to new jobs and boost innovation, though did not elaborate exactly how.

The FCC is set to launch a spectrum auction next year that will reassign current spectrum licenses. According to reports, broadcasters will load off licenses to the FCC, which will in turn auction those licenses to wireless operators.
