The Federal Trade Commission’s Chairwoman Edith Ramirez has announced her choice for the agency’s Director of the Office of Policy Planning, say reports.
Professor Marina Lao, who currently teaches antitrust at Seton Hall University School of Law, has been appointed to the position as the FTC prepares for the current Office of Policy Planning Director, Andrew I. Gavil, to step down. Reports say Gavil will return to teaching at Howard University School of Law.
In a statement, Ramirez said she is “very pleased” to announced Lao’s appointment, stating that “her depth of knowledge in the areas of competition and intellectual property law will help the Federal Trade Commission continue to effectively promote competition and protect American consumers.”
According to the FTC, the position spearheads the innovation and implementation of long-term competition policy.
