US: General Electric sells appliance operations for $3.3 billion

General Electric has reportedly agreed to sell its appliance business in a $3.3 billion deal with Sweden-based Electrolux.

The companies announced the deal Monday. Electrolux is looking to strengthen its position against top rival Whirlpool, reports say; the deal with General Electric marks the Swedish firm’s largest-ever acquisition.

Reports first emerged in August that the companies were in talks of a possible deal.
