US: Grocers cash-in on $1.3B merger

Minnesota-based grocery chain Nash Finch will merge with Spartan Stores in a deal valued at $1.3 billion, say reports. The all-stock deal will result in operations throughout 37 states and comprise of 177 stores; reports say the transaction will create the nation’s largest distributor to military commissaries and exchanges. Each party’s board of directors has unanimously cleared the deal, though remains subject to regulatory approval as well as the clearance of shareholders.
