US: Hyped-up Disney acquisition of LucasFilm doesn’t go as planned for gamers

In a deal that garnered much excitement among Star Wars fans, Disney’s October 2012 acquisition of LucasFilm, including its videogame development house LucasArts, has partially collapsed as Disney closed the gaming company and cancelled current projects for two new Star Wars games. A statement from a Disney representative said that while the 2012 deal earned a lot of approval, the company had to analyze it’s portfolio to “realign some things.” According to reports, 150 LucasArts employees have been laid off. Disney bought LucasFilm and its sister-companies for more than $4 billion.
