US: Judge rules US Steel can’t pursue antitrust claims

An administrative law judge with the US International Trade Commission ruled US Steel can’t pursue antitrust claims against Chinese steel producers, but her decision could be overturned by the six-member commission.

US Steel wants the ITC to bar Chinese imports, alleging that country’s producers conspired to fix prices, stole trade secrets, and evaded import duties by mislabeling imports. The judge said the latter two claims can proceed. US Steel alleges the practices violated trade law and devastated the US industry. The company said it was shocked and disappointed by the ruling.
