US: Judge sets Apple patent trial limits, denies addition of Samsung phone into case

 |  June 28, 2013

Apple’s lawsuit against Samsung hit a roadblock last Wednesday, though reports say had it not been for the setback, the technology patent case could have gone on for ages. A judge denied Apple last Wednesday from adding Samsung’s Galaxy S4 to its list of infringing products; the case, set to go to trial next year, is the second lawsuit Apple has filed against Samsung for infringing on smartphone patents. US Magistrate Judge Paul S. Grewal explained that the addition of the S4 into the case would only extend the litigation process. Further, that extended process would take up more of the court’s “time and energy.” Had the S4 been granted inclusion in the case, Apple could have requested higher damages from Samsung. The case is scheduled for trial in March 2014.
