US: National CineMedia, Screenvision abandon merger and pay $28 million in fees

Cinema advertising companies National CineMedia and Screenvision have called off their planned $375 million merger, a move that comes four months after the Department of Justice filed a lawsuit to block the deal.

The companies on Monday said the ongoing cost and distraction of the lawsuit to their employees, advertisers and exhibitor partners could no longer be justified and that both companies would be better off operating as standalone companies. Centennial-based NCM will pay a $26.8 million termination payment within 10 days.
