Public Knowledge, a DC-based public interest group that works tech and telecom issues, announced Monday, July 15, that the group’s chief lobbyist Chris Lewis is taking the helm as CEO. Outgoing CEO Gene Kimmelman is stepping aside to take on a senior adviser role.
Lewis brings 17 years of experience in policy making and political activism, including the last decade working in technology policy at the Federal Communications Commission and as Vice President at Public Knowledge.
As Public Knowledge works towards its stated goal of defending the internet in 2020 and beyond, it states it will continue promoting its fundamental values to make sure no one is left behind in the new digital era. This entails fighting for the public interest even as the nation’s largest broadband providers, wireless carriers, and media conglomerates modernize communications infrastructure and challenge the public’s right to free expression online.
