US: PA residents, companies sue Blue Cross insurers for alleged non-compete agreements

Four insurers, including Highmark Inc. and Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association, are reportedly being sued for alleged non-compete agreements between each other in a case filed by three Pennsylvania residents and two businesses. According to court documents, the plaintiffs accuse the insurers of colluding to “perpetuate and dominate market position that each Blue Cross and Blue Shield entity has historically enjoyed” in each geographical market. Highmark does not face competition in southwestern Pennsylvania, the case claims, due to those agreements in violation of federal antirust law.
