US: Potential Emulex buyers timid over patent infringement charges

Struggling chip manufacturer Emulex Corp is reportedly looking for potential buyers to acquire the company, but according to sources, has not yet found a suitable offer. The reason, say those sources, may be because potential buyers are put-off by Emulex’s current legal woes.

    Larger rival Broadcom Corp. filed a lawsuit against Emulex for allegations of patent infringement, and buyers could be worried about legal liabilities if they acquire Emulex, say reports.

    Still, Emulex has held talks with private equity firms including Thoma Bravo and Francisco Partners about a potential purchase, according to several unnamed sources.
