US: Poultry giant convinces court to appeal $25M price-fixing fine

 |  August 31, 2013

A major global poultry company has convinced a federalappeals court to appeal a previously-issued $25 million price-fixing fine.

Pilgrim’s Pride Corp. was slammed with the fine in 2011 for manipulating prices of poultry products. The damages were awarded to several dozen poultry growers, say reports.

The ruling was overturned by the 5th US Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans. The two-judge panel found that Pilgrim’s Pride’s pricing strategy in the time in question was “neither illegitimate nor anticompetitive.”

A lawyer for the poultry growers did not immediately respond for comment.
