US: Salmon price fixing cases consolidated

North Atlantic fisheries accused of conspiring to fix the price of farm-raised salmon by rigging its cash price in Oslo will go to Miami federal court to defend themselves, reported Bloomberg Law.

    Judge Cecilia M. Altonaga of the Southern District of Florida consolidated two proposed class actions May 10. Altonaga said she would also oversee other lawsuits claiming the top producers of farmed salmon propped up the Oslo “spot price,”

    The original lawsuit, filed on Tuesday, 23 April, alleges the major players in Norway’s farmed salmon industry exchanged competitively sensitive information among themselves, with the aim of artificially controlling the price of farm-raised salmon bought by U.S. seafood buyers, a violation of the Sherman Anti-Trust Act.
