US: Shearman & Sterling lawyer confirmed as federal judge

 |  February 26, 2014

Shearman & Sterling antitrust lawyer James Donato has reportedly been overwhelmingly confirmed by the US Senate to become a federal judge in San Francisco, say reports.

Donato, along with Beth Freeman, were confirmed on Tuesday following Republican objections to the Obama nominees.

Donato was confirmed 90-5, filling a seat that had been vacant for 500 days, say reports. He was first nominated last June and faced no opposition at committee hearings.

Confirmation faced obstacles when Republicans disagreed with Democrats’ note to end filibusters of presidential nominees last November.
