US: Sirius XM Radio enters telematics car safety service market

 |  August 16, 2013

Through its $530 million buyout of telematics services company Agero, Sirius XM Radio, a digital radio conglomerate, enters a market seen as a “natural fit” for the company to offer services through an automobile via cellular and satellite networks. Agero focuses on safety, security and convenience services for drives. The buyout will see Sirius extend services to car brands including Acura, BMW, Honda and Lexus, among others – more than any other telematics provider. The parties expect to finalize the deal by the fourth quarter of this year, though the buyout remains subject to regulatory approval.
