US: The date is set for AMR, US Airways merger lawsuit

 |  August 31, 2013

US District Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly ruled Friday that a lawsuit against airline giants AMR, which owns American Airlines, and US Airways, will take place November 25, news that is sure to be welcome by the airlines as they rallied for a faster court schedule than the US Department of Justice, which had hoped to delay the case into next year.

Reports said the judge described the DOJ’s request for a March 2014 trial as “too far off.” She also reportedly urged the parties to quickly develop a strong case in preparation for trial.

AMR had requested an earlier trial date due to the company’s restructuring efforts to emerge from bankruptcy, plans that are currently on hold due to the merger lawsuit.

The DOJ filed its lawsuit against the companies earlier this month, citing competition concerns for adeal that would lead to the world’s largest airline.
