US: Wal-Mart challenges Whole Foods with organic product rollout

Seven years after organic grocery giant Whole Foods acquired the Wild Oats organic brand, reports say Wal-Mart is entering the market by selling the onetime Whole Foods-owned Wild Oats products.

Whole Foods largely dominates the industry; as a market leader, the company was pressured to divest Wild Oats by the Federal Trade Commission after it acquired the brand in 2007.

Wal-Mart announced plans Thursday to give Whole Foods a run for its money as it looks to sell Wild Oats products at 25 percent lower costs than average for organic items.
