Walgreen Co., now a subsidiary of Walgreen Boots Alliance, Inc., has announced it will sell a majority interest in Walgreen Infusion Services (WIS) to a private equity firm for an undisclosed sum. WIS has alternate treatment sites in 40 states and the ability to serve 90 percent of the US population. Madison Dearborn Partners (MDP), a Chicago-based private equity firm, has agreed to the purchase that will result in WIS becoming a new independent, privately held company.
Walgreen Boots Alliance will retain a minority share and have representatives on the board. The financial details have not been released, but WIS has announced that current divisional vice president of WIS will take the position of CEO of the new company. The sale is still subject to normal regulatory requirements, but the parties expect the deal to conclude during the second quarter of 2015.
