US: Winston & Strawn high-stakes antitrust litigator moves to Kirkland

 |  December 10, 2014

The chair of Winston & Strawn’s litigation practice is reportedly set to jump to Kirkland & Eliis and join its executive committee.

James Hurst, who specializes in litigation and intellectual property, has several antitrust cases under his belt – most notably, he secured a win in 2011 in defending Abbott Laboratories accused of fixing drug prices.

According to reports, while not unprecedented, it is unusual for law firms to make a lateral hire of the executive team. Kirkland says Hurst will focus on representing pharmaceutical companies that make branded drugs; Winston, on the other hand, represents several generic drug makers, so Hurt’s move will not pose a conflict of interest, reports say.
