US/Italy: Cyberonics, Italy’s Sorin merge to create medical technology leader

Sorin a global medical device company and a leader in the treatment of cardiovascular diseases, and Cyberonics a medical device company with core expertise in neuromodulation, announced on Thursday their merger plan to create a new global leader in medical technologies with a combined equity value of approximately $2.7 billion.

The proposed transaction has been unanimously approved by the boards of directors of both companies. The proposed transaction will create a global leader in the large and growing markets for cardiac surgery.
