WWE and MLW Reach Settlement in Antitrust Lawsuit

 |  December 12, 2023

WWE and Major League Wrestling (MLW) have put an end to their legal battle by reaching a settlement in the antitrust lawsuit filed by MLW against WWE. The resolution was disclosed in a Notice of Settlement filed on Monday, December 11, as reported by Brandon Thurston of Wrestlenomics. The final settlement documents are anticipated to be officially submitted within the next 30 days.

The lawsuit, initiated by MLW in January 2022, faced initial dismissal in March 2023. However, an amended suit was permitted to proceed, with Judge Edward Avila in San Jose, California acknowledging MLW’s presentation of “sufficiently pleaded circumstantial evidence of WWE’s monopoly power.” Notably, MLW’s claim that WWE accounted for 92% of revenue in the pro wrestling media rights sector served as pivotal evidence of WWE’s dominance in the market.

As both parties work towards finalizing the settlement details, the wrestling community awaits the official conclusion of this legal chapter, with expectations of dismissal papers being formally filed in the coming month.
