Zambia: Poultry mergers approved by regulators

Regulators within Zambia have given the green light for two proposed mergers within the nation’s poultry industry. The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission’s Board of Commissioners has approved for Bokomo Zambia Limited and Mega Eggs Limited to merge, as well as for Zamchick Limited and Rainbow Chickens Limited, based in South Africa, to merge. The first deal will see Bokomo Zambia buy more than 49 percent in Zamchick Limited for $14.25 million. The second as approved as Rainbow does not operate within Zambia; additionally, Zamchick only controls about 10 percent of the nation’s poultry market.
