With only a few days before the departure of Felipe Irarrázabal as head of the National Economic Prosecutor’s Office (FNE) of Chile, the government has accelerated efforts to seek his replacement.
The search for the new prosecutor implies defining the candidate profile, in addition to establishing a commission to review the background of nominees, a process that will extend beyond the current prosecutor’s term. Therefore, the Office of the Prosecutor will pass to interim prosecutor Mario Ybar until the new appointment is resolved.
Ybar is considered one of the favorites to succeed Irarrázabal, which would be interpreted as recognition of the outgoing prosecutor’s good perormance, and a commitment to continuity in the agency’s management.
Other names mentioned surrounding the position in recent weeks include lawyer Ricardo Riesco, a former Irarrázabal partner and visiting professor at Columbia University, USA; Likewise, lawyers Juan Cristobal Gumucio, from law firm Cariola, Diez, Pérez-Cotapos, and lawyer Lorena Pavic, linked to the firm Ferrada Nehme, have been mentioned as potential candidates.
