US Judge Asks Hagens Berman & Quinn Emanuel To Play Nice In Facebook Suit

US District Judge James Donato in San Francisco appointed Hagens Berman Sobol Shapiro and Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan in a current consumer case against Facebook, Reuters reported.  In a court order the judge asks both firms to put aside their dispute over control of the antitrust case and work together.

    “It is the court’s expectation that the attorneys will treat this appointment as the start of a new day, and put behind them the conflicts that gave rise to these proceedings,” Judge Donato wrote.

    Hagens Berman partner Shana Scarlett and Quinn Emanuel partner Kevin Teruya, the two lawyers appointed to represent a prospective consumer class.

     “The Court concludes, with some reservations, that attorneys Teruya and Scarlett will be designated interim lead counsel for the consumer class. It is the Court’s expectation that the attorneys will treat this appointment as the start of a new day, and put behind them the conflicts that gave rise to these proceedings. It bears emphasis that the designations are interim, and further reports of dysfunctionality or breakdowns in the work relationship will likely result in designation of new counsel for a class that may be certified later in the case, if that comes to pass.”

    The case is Klein v. Meta Platforms Inc, U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, No. 5:20-cv-08570.
