FTC Chair Khan Names New Director Of Bureau Of Economics

Federal Trade Commission Chair Lina M. Khan has appointed Aviv Nevo to serve as Director of the FTC’s Bureau of Economics.

    Nevo, who will begin his new role in January, joins the FTC from the University of Pennsylvania, where he is the George A. Weiss and Lydia Bravo Weiss Penn Integrates Knowledge Professor with appointments in the Wharton School of Business and the Department of Economics, as well as director of the Competition and Policy Initiative. Before that, Nevo was a professor in the Department of Economics at Northwestern University and served as Deputy Assistant Attorney General for Economic Analysis in the Department of Justice’s Antitrust Division. Prior to that, he also taught at the University of California at Berkeley.

    Nevo is a fellow of the Econometric Society, served as a co-editor of Econometrica and the RAND Journal of Economics, and served as editor of the Journal of Industrial Economics. He earned a B.S. in Mathematics and Economics from Tel Aviv University, and an M.A. and Ph.D. in Economics from Harvard University.

    The Commission vote approving the appointment of Nevo was 4-0.
