Brazil Watchdog Investigates Bayer, Monsanto

 |  March 15, 2020

Superintendence of Brazil antitrust regulator known as Cade opened Thursday an administrative proceeding against Bayer Aktiengesellschaft, Monsanto Company and Monsanto do Brasil, of the Bayer Group, for alleged anti-competitive behavior in the seed and biotechnology markets, according to a Cade’s statement

Case started as a result of complaints made during the merger investigation involving the acquisition of Monsanto Company by Bayer Aktiengesellschaft. The acquisition was approved with restrictions by Cade in Feb. 2018

The transaction, valued at US$66 billion when announced in September 2016, created the world’s largest seeds and pesticides company. The value of the deal has since been revised to US$63.5 billion as Monsanto reduced its debt load.
