Malaysia: Axiata, Telenor call of mega merger

Axiata and Telenor have mutually agreed to end the discussions on the proposed merger of their telecom and infrastructure assets in Asia, reported Malay Mail.

    In a statement, Axiata said in the last four months, both parties have been performing their due diligence and finalizing transaction agreements to be completed within the third quarter of 2019. However, due to some complexities involved in the proposed transaction, the parties have mutually agreed to end the discussions, the group said.

    The Axiata-Telenor joint venture would have had close to 300 million customers, and would have been one of Asia’s largest mobile infrastructure companies, operating close to 60,000 towers across the continent.
