Colombia: SIC orders Movo brand to leave Bogotá

The Superintendence of Industry and Commerce of Colombia has ordered the rental scooter brand Movo to leave the city of Bogotá, arguing damages to Colombian company Muvo, due to the similarities in the name, services, and even in matters of publicity and promotion. Therefore, the SIC decided to impose precautionary measures on the Spanish company.

    Muvo provides bicycle rental services in Bogotá since 2017, and electric scooters since 2019, through an application, with corresponding brand registration. However, the electric scooter company Movo entered the market in 2019, with the same business model and virtually identical brands. Movo has a close relationship with Spanish company Cabify.

    The SIC, in view of the damage caused to the Colombian company, decided to enact a series of precautionary measures that must be applied within the next 10 business days, suspending the rental of skateboards with the “Movo” or similar brand, removing them from commercial circuits .
