Chile: Latam and American Airlines withdraw JBA application

Latam Airlines and American Airlines have decided to withdraw the request they made for approval of a Joint Business Agreement (JBA) for flights serving the routes between Chile and the United States, which was being reviewed by the US Department of Transportation.

    According to Latam sources, the request will be resubmitted in coming weeks, with updated information on the benefits for passengers that could result from the agreement between the airlines.

    The above, according to Latam sources, is due to the fact that the initial request was submitted more than two years ago specifically in May 2016- and their aim is to update the background information in response to the changes that the market and the airline industry have undergone in this time.

    In turn, American Airlines sources agreed that both airlines intend to resubmit the application in the near future. The agreement between Latam and American Airlines had been approved by almost every country where it had been presented for evaluation by local authorities. In the United States the agreement was still being analyzed by the Department of Transportation.
