Spain: CNMC moves against ADIDAS for abusive practices

The National Commission of Markets and Competition (CNMC) has targeted ADIDAS Spain, opening disciplinary proceedings against the sportswear brand for alleged anticompetitive practices.

    The investigation is focused on clauses imposed by ADIDAS on contracts with its franchisees that, the authority says, could be interpreted as disproportionate non-compete obligations. Also, the sporting goods manufacturer could have indirectly set the resale prices of its franchisees.

    The CNMC considered that, after receiving the original complaint that prompted the investigation, there are enough rational indications of the existence of conduct prohibited by the country´s Competition Law.
