World: World Sailing ruling body to launch antitrust probe into Olympic sailing equipment

According to a press release from World Sailing, the organization has selected the Olympic sailing events which will be subject to an antitrust probe in 2018 concerning the 2024 Olympic Games.

    The Men’s and Women’s One Person Dinghy event had the equipment selected in 1992 and Men’s and Women’s Windsurfer event had the equipment selected in 2004.

    The review is to ensure there is fair and open competition at regular intervals for the equipment for an Olympic Event, ensuring that “sailors, Member National Authorities and Olympic teams are receiving a high-quality service and products from manufacturers at competitive market prices. Together with World Sailing’s new enhanced Olympic Classes Contract, these measures strengthen World Sailing’s compliance with EU competition law.”
