Mexico: Aeroméxico to appeal COFECE measures

Mexican airline Aeroméxico and its partner, Delta Airlines, have filed to appeal the resolution reached by the Federal Commission for Economic Competition (COFECE), which imposed a series of measures for the allocation of takeoff and landing Slots at Mexico City’s International Airport (AICM).

    COFECE has issued a series of measures to eliminate what it considers to be inconsistencies in the rules for the allocation of slots, which could generate “discretion, uncertainty and little transparency” in the process. The recommendations were studied in depth by the airport administration which in recent days announced that a motion would be filed against two of the 13 measures issued by the regulator.

    Against this background, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) made a new call for Mexico to adopt international practices, considering COFECE’s proposal “deviates from global standards”.
