The competition watchdog’s analysis also shows that Correos lost 1.5% of its market share for traditional post, with 90% of the market in terms of sales.

The CNMC’s report shows Correos as the hardest hit by the fall in traditional mailing last year, with an overall dip of 4% in total postal activity, with only 3.5 billion parcels sent and causing a 2% drop in profits for the industry.

“The rise of new technologies, and particularly the rapid growth of e-commerce, has caused an accelerated change in the sector, with the arrival of new companies and the diversification of industrial goods transportation companies towards this sector” remarks the CNMC’s report.
