Australia: Ugg boot business fined

A company selling “truly Australian made” uggs has been fined more than $10,000 after the consumer watchdog said it had reason to believe the sheepskin shoes came from China.

    Kingdom Groups International has paid a $10,800 infringement notice after the ACCC said it had reasonable grounds to believe its “Ugg Aries Sheepskin Australia” footwear was made in China, and not Canberra as claimed.

    “Country of origin claims are a particularly valuable marketing tool for businesses, as many consumers place a premium on goods that are Australian made,” ACCC deputy chair Dr Michael Schaper said in a statement.

    The ACCC investigated Kingdom following a complaint by the Australia Made Campaign.
