US: American Lawyer names antitrust lawyer “Dealmaker of the Year”

Phillip Proger, a senior antitrust lawyer in Jones Day’s Washington Office, has been named a “Dealmaker of the Year” by The American Lawyer, for simultaneously steering two multibillion-dollar health care deals through the U.S. antitrust enforcement agencies: Aetna’s $37 billion acquisition of Humana and Rite Aid’s $17.2 billion acquisition by Walgreens.

    The Aetna / Humana transaction, one of several pending deals in the health insurance sector, is being reviewed by the Department of Justice (DOJ). At the same time, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is examining Walgreens’ proposed acquisition of fellow drugstore chain Rite Aid. Both deals were announced in 2015 and are expected to close in 2016.
