Colombia: Telefónica eyes AT&T assets

Spanish telecommunication’s colossus Telefónica has expressed an interest in purchasing AT&T’s assets in Latin America’s pay TV market. These assets have been valued at approx. $10 billion, adjusted after the purchase of Colombia’s DIrectTV last year.

    AT&T’s assets include Satellite and Cable networks in Brazil, Colombia, Venezuela, Argentina and other countries. The american firm has not yet commented on the possibility of selling these assets to Telefónica.

    AT&T has around 19 million pay TV subscribers throughout South America, making it the largest single player in the market. Its business has been hit recently, however, due to the plummeting currency in Brazil and throughout the region.
