Mexico’s telecommunications regulator, IFT, has announced the launch of a public consultation to gather opinions on a proposal for the creation of a National Infrastructure Information System (SNII). The registry would be used to promote and facilitate initiatives for sharing antennae and transmission lines, as well as to better organize future deployments.
The proposed instrument is seen as a step towards fulfilling article 181 of Mexico’s Federal Telecommunications and Broadcasting Law, which specifically urges the agency to create and maintain a “national, geo-referential database containing information gathered from active infrastructure registries, transmission lines, passive infrastructure, transit rights and public spaces.”
The announcement by IFT’s Political Regulation Unit goes on to specify the information that will be requested, as well as terms and timetables for its delivery. Those who wish to participate in the public consultation may register through IFT’s website before February 2016.
