Hong Kong: Competition Commission warns trade groups of new ordinance

    Competition Commission chief executive Stanley Wong said price fixing and other anti- competitive behavior is banned under the competition law, which is expected to come into full force by the end of this year.

    Pamphlets explaining the law will soon be sent to Hong Kong’s 600 trade associations.

    “If an association holds a meeting in which members discuss prices, the association could be sanctioned,” Wong said.

    Even casual chitchats after a formal meeting “are not okay,” he added. The associations were also advised against organizing or encouraging a boycott by members against individuals or companies.
