US: AT&T-DirecTV deal to likely finalise by May

AT&T and DIRECTV have told US regulators that their projected merger would be helpful in expanding the availability of broadband Internet, while offering increasing competition to cable-television companies.

    AT&T officials informed investors yesterday that they foresee the FCC to approve its proposed merger with DirecTV by the close of May. In addition, the activities related to the merger plans of the cable companies have also been accelerated.

    Six democratic senators on Tuesday wrote to the FCC as well as the department of justice, pledging them to put a halt to the projected merger between Time Warner and Comcast.
