US: Pennsylvania speaks out in rare support of Comcast/TWC

Pennsylvania is offering support to Comcast’s proposed acquisition of Time Warner Cable at a time when consumer advocates and rivals continue to fight the merger.

    The state’s two senators are urging US authorities to approve the deal “as soon as possible” while touting the deal’s benefits, including faster Internet speeds for Time Warner Cable customers.

    Senators Bob Casey (D) and Pat Toomey (R) sent a letter to Federal Communications Commission head Tom Wheeler urging him to approve the $45 billion tie-up. Reports say the Senators’ plea also cited potential job creation as a result of the merger.

    The letter follows last week’s announcement of a new coalition named Stop Mega-Comcast aimed at blocking the cable merger.
