The UK’s water and waste industry is bracing for a new wave of mergers and acquisitions in the wake of market regulator Ofwat’s pricing policies.
Reports say Ofwat is set to publish the https://www.competitionpolicyinternational.com/uk-thames-water-bill-hikes-unwelcome-by-ofwat/ pricing guidelines set for industry players, which will be valid for five years beginning in 2015. Ofwat is slated to make a final decision on those pricing rules on December 12.
Experts say the guidelines will likely promote consolidation in the market due to greater economic clarity of the industry’s environment.
Ofwat proposed about a 5 percent reduction in water bills earlier this year.
