Armenia: Antitrust watchdogs eye price hikes

    The nation’s Premier Hovik Abrahamyan has requested the State Commission for Protection of Economic Competition to probe the matter and product a report on the price hikes after experts found that commodity prices rose an average of 10 percent in recent days.

    Reports say the price hikes are the result of currency depreciation, among other political factors.

    But official findings found only a 5 percent rise in prices. Premier Abrahamyan has now asked competition officials to look into the discrepancy.

    According to reports, price spikes were seen for a variety of products including butter, sugar, and other food products.
