France: Carrefour agrees to let go of 56 stores for merger

French supermarket conglomerate Carrefour has reportedly reached an agreement with competition authorities to acquire discount supermarket business Dia France, though the agreement included concessions.

    Reports say Carrefour will divest 56 stores to acquire the French unit of Spain-based Dia, the world’s third-place discount supermarket operator. Dia and Carrefour reached a merger agreement in June, say reports, worth about $747 million.

    France’s competition authority announced the merger approval Friday.
