The UK’s Competition and Markets Authority, along with the Serious Fraud Office, have reportedly teamed up in efforts to curb cartel abuse.
According to an announcement by the CMA, the regulators have signed a memorandum of understanding that allows the regulators to jointly “investigation and/or prosecute individuals in respect of the criminal cartel offense” as legally outlined.
In a document released on the CMA website, the agreement between the companies includes the facilitation of information sharing and the action to be taken by the CMA’s Cartels and Criminal Enforcement Group should evidence of cartel abuse be found by either regulator.
The CMA launched operations last month after the former Competition Commission and Office of Fair Trading were merged.
