Germany: Hospital consolidation gets antitrust clearance

German competition watchdogs have cleared the proposed acquisition of Rhoen-Klinikum hospitals by Fresenius healthcare group after concessions were made, according to reports.

    The two companies announced in separate statements that the Federal Cartel Office has cleared the deal that reports say was inked for about $4.1 billion. The deal cleared by the Office includes 40 hospitals and 13 outpatient facilities. The groups agreed to exclude some units from the merger, but reports did not specify which houses were left out of the deal.
