After pay-TV operator Canal+ had its buyout approval of rival Direct 8 TV overturned, reports say Canal+ is willing to offer further concessions to resolve antitrust issues and have the buyout approved again.
The company has reportedly offered to not acquire the rights for programming of more than 20 new French films every year to appease France’s highest administrative court, which over turned regulatory clearance for Canal+ to acquire Direct 8 TV. The buyout was made in 2012.
As the process continues, reports say France’s Competition Authority will be discussing the matter with Canal+ rivals, as well as telecom and broadcast authorities. The Authority had originally cleared the deal in September 2012, but its decision was later challenged by Canal+ rivals TF1 and M6.
